The KhighFive Ranch is part of the original JlazyJ Ranch, established by my grandparents in the late 1800’s. They were among the Danish immigrants who settled the town of Gardnerville in 1879. Gardnerville is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year.
The KhighFive is a working ranch. My sons and I raise black baldy cattle on our 200 plus acres. The calves are born in late February through March. This is the time to see the majestic bald and golden eagles. The calves are branded and vaccinated in late May. This is also the time for breeding “in the springtime, a young man’s fancy turns to love,” even in the animal world. Hay is put up in June, and for the rest of summer the grass grows tall and the river runs through it, literally, the West Fork of the Carson River.
As a bed and breakfast guest, you can enjoy all the seasons on the Ranch. Hiking, fishing, birdwatching, riding your horse, or just soaking in the incredible views from the porches of the house. Civilization is only a few minutes away from worldclass skiing and golf, to fine dining and a myriad of events in Reno Lake Tahoe and even San Francisco. As a guest of a special event at the ranch, you may be part of a hoedown with an authentic Indian teepee, a dream-like garden party where flowers abound from every corner of the yard, or maybe just watching the sun go down over Job’s Peak in anticipation of stargazing with your new life partner at your side.
